Shounosuke Okura

Shonosuke Okura strikes a drum. In sacred Noh theatres and earthquake memorials, he strikes a drum. At the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg alongside Martha Argerich, he strikes a drum. The instrument is the ōtsuzumi, the large hand drum of Noh theatre, and Okura is the 16th generation of a family lineage built around it, a holder of Japan's Important Intangible Cultural Property, and since nine, a student of a Living National Treasure.
