Over four days in late Autumn, for 100 guests, a new chapter begins across private gardens, secluded temples and the mountains of Kyoto.
Moving through this experience, guided by Myō, a Japanese philosophy rooted in Zen Buddhist teachings. It finds the extraordinary living quietly inside the ordinary. In the way light lazes on green moss, in mountain silence, in the space between one moment and the next.
Each space is chosen not only as
a setting, but as a site of meaning.

Ohara Sanso
大原山荘
An hour north of Kyoto, where the cedar forest thickens and the mountains close in on all sides, lies Ohara. Since the 12th century, the Oharame (women of the village) walked to central Kyoto carrying firewood on their heads, their indigo kimono and straw accessories marking them as a cultural institution of the north.

Kurama Mountain
鞍馬山
North of Kyoto, where cedar forests, lantern-lined paths and moss-covered stone steps climb into the mountains, has long been a place of spiritual practice and transformation. From the visions of monks and the origins of Reiki to the legends of warrior training hidden within these hills, the mountain continues to draw visitors into its quiet and enduring presence.

Ochill TeaRoom
Tucked within Kyoto, Ochill TeaRoom approaches the ritual of gathering through tea, meditation and contemporary art. Blending Zen-inspired practices with experimental experiences, from quiet Zazen sittings to tea ceremonies and tea smoking, the space invites visitors into a slower state of presence, reflection and sensory attunement.
Over four days,
four movements evolve.

Arrival / Silence
静けさに入る
We arrive with openness. The noise of elsewhere travels with us, but the mountains receive it without judgement.
“Be broad outwardly, deep inwardly.”
– D.T. Suzuki, Essays in Zen Buddhism
Beginning on sacred grounds
Where does Wonder dwell?
Is it within you?
Since ancient times,
the culture born in Kyoto
has held this question sacred.
Here, your spirit’s pilgrimage begins.
From the cradle of Kyoto,
let the opening ceremony begin.

Attunement / Sensitivity
感覚が開く
On the second day we Attune, drawn by intuition toward what calls us, each finding our own path through Mind, Nature and Sound. As dusk settles, the paths converge in the heart of Kyoto.
Sōkō 霜降, Frost Falls: The season of dewdrops turning to frost. Maple leaves start to turn red.
In the city of Kyoto, our dwelling, we choose between three paths.
Nature guided through a Shinto practice and into the cool clarity of nature.
Mindfulness in a zen garden, the gatherers sit. The silence here is not empty but full. What needs to surface, surfaces.
Craft through local practices, the gatherers discover that the spirit finds its own way through the hands.

Encounter
自然・人・文化と出会う
Artisans, practitioners and artists gather for a celebration of the season. Gatherers join, alive to the season, to minds unravelled. Morning to night, the stars, the creative energy, the wonderment of it all.
Ohara Sanso
North of Kyoto, where the mountains close in and the city falls away, lies Ohara Sanso. Where nobles, poets and monks have sought spiritual healing in Ohara.
The khaen and the shō are free-reed instruments separated by a thousand miles and two ancient cultures coming together.

Realization
世界の見方が変わる
On Kurama’s sacred mountain, performances and a mandala ceremony guide the closing gathering into prayer, realization and reflection, as Kyoto glows red beneath the evening sky.

We explore Myō in our own time, and define it in our own terms.
