Shiro Matsui
Shiro Matsui is a sculptor preoccupied with a single question: where does inside end and outside begin? A leading figure of the Kansai New Wave, his practice has evolved from traditional materials to giant inflatable nylon structures that warp entire museum galleries. In collaboration with JAXA, he sent a project to the International Space Station in which astronauts captured cosmic vacuum in a bottle and returned it to earth. At Chapters: Kyoto, that bottle arrives on Tenma silk, laid over reclaimed wood from a historic temple.
